Located on the northwest side of the island of Kauai in the Nā Pali Coast State Park, Kalalau Valley is popular for its natural beauty. The valley is surrounded by lush cliffs that rise 2000 ft (609.6 m). Due to plenty of sun and rain, the area is rich in flora and fauna. The only way to access the valley is by foot or boat.

Located outside Ha'ena at the end of Hwy 56, Haena State Park is reknowned for its scenic views of Kauai's rugged coastline. Ancient sea caves dot its landscape and the 11 mi (17 km) Kalalau Trail starts here.
